The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) poses challenges for power
distribution networks, including power losses, voltage instability, and higher operational
costs. Integrating renewable energy sources like solar farm (PV) systems and battery
energy storage systems (BESS) can help mitigate these issues. However, optimizing the
placement and sizing of EV charging stations (EVCS), PV, and BESS is complex due to
uncertainties in EV charging behavior and renewable generation, requiring advanced
optimization techniques.
This study employs Monte Carlo simulations along with genetic algorithms (GA),
particle swarm optimization (PSO), differential evolution (DE), and quantum-inspired
evolutionary algorithms (QEA) to optimize EVCS, PV, and BESS placement in the IEEE 33-
bus distribution system. Stochastic modeling of EV loads and renewable energy
fluctuations is incorporated, alongside an advanced reconfiguration algorithm to improve
grid resilience and stability.
Simulation results show that high EV penetration significantly affects voltage
stability and power losses, particularly at 50% and above. Optimized PV and BESS
integration reduces power losses by up to 33% and minimizes CO2 emissions. The
proposed Monte Carlo-based approach outperforms traditional methods, providing
accurate insights for efficient and sustainable EV-grid integration.

Nanocrystalline Cellulose and Amorphous Cellulose from Fibers of Banana, Water Hyacinth and Bamboo

Title: Nanocrystalline Cellulose and Amorphous Cellulose from Fibers of Banana, Water Hyacinth and Bamboo
Authors: Pruttipong, Pantamanatsopa
Abstract: The growing demand for eco-friendly materials has driven research into new alternative research on using cellulose derived from agricultural waste. This study investigates the synthesis and analysis properties of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and amorphous cellulose (AC) obtained from three agricultural residues: banana trunk fibers (BNNF), water hyacinth (WHF) fibers, and bamboo fibers (BBF) by means of the process of hydrolysis and dissolution in sulfuric acid. The research focuses on optimizing the production conditions and examining the structural properties, morphology and physicochemical properties of the obtained nanocellulose.
The optimized acid hydrolysis conditions gave the highest NCC yields of 68. 44% for BNNF, 85. 3% for WHF, and 69. 46% for BBF, while the acid dissolution conditions gave the highest AC yields of 62.2% for BNNF, 71.6% for WHF, and 65.1% for BBF. Analysis of material properties using techniques XRD, FTIR, SEM and TEM revealed structural differences between NCC and AC. In this regard, NCC showed a high crystallinity index (82.3 %-89.5 %), which was a result of the efficient removal of amorphous parts by hydrolysis process, and the TEM image showed the appearance of straight rods (whisker-like morphology) with a diameter of 4–20 nm and a length of 50– 500nm. In contrast, AC showed a lower crystallinity index. (26.2%-35.45%) and appeared to be clustered together due to the dissolution of the crystal structure. Furthermore, zeta potential analysis revealed that NCC had significantly better colloidal stability (−30.93 mV to −43.24 mV) compared to AC (−19.73 mV to −17.25 mV), which was due to the formation of charged sulfate ester groups during the acid hydrolysis process. This stability made NCC and AC more suitable for applications that required different stable dispersion in colloidal systems.
This research highlighted the potential upscale of NCC and AC as sustainable materials for biocomposites, biomedical applications and industrial processes. In particular, this study could be considered the first time that bamboo sawdust, banana trunks and water hyacinth have been successfully converted into nanocellulose, demonstrating the feasibility of harnessing these renewable resources to develop green technologies. The research results not only helped solve the environmental problems related to agricultural waste but also paved the way for innovative cellulose applications in sustainable materials development.

Authors: Oluwaseun, Olanrewaju Akinte
Abstract: The global composition of energy consumption is experiencing a massive transformation as a result of nonrenewable energy resources, and the consumption of conventional energy causes greenhouse gas emissions. The clean and sustainable energy development system known as renewable energy system serves as the main focus in replacing conventional energy sources. The enhancement of energy network stability and smoothing operation of intermittent energy generation from renewable energy power sources, therefore, is being processed by the energy storage system during the power flow. The technologies associated with energy storage systems are updated and improved continuously to meet up with energy demand to reduce the rate of fuel consumption for greater reliability and minimizing energy cost when connected to the grid system or disconnected from the grid network.
This dissertation focused on a flexible and steady clean energy source from municipal wastes that was integrated successfully with the utility grid operation in On-Nut community in Bangkok, Thailand. The configuration of biomass gasifier system from municipal wastes with storage system following dispatched algorithms was designed with the grid system as a unified microgrid network. The proposed generating system was modeled experimentally, mathematically, and schematically to determine the most efficient power generation management, energy cost productivity, and sectional energy contribution between the biogas generators and grid system. An optimized controlling algorithm with feedback control systems was designed by an industrial HOMER analysis application to perform technical supervision and econometrics of the energy flow management by
switching operation to the most productive electric energy cost service and efficient operational network system from the integrated power system architectures operating energetically in different modes.
The research results showed that the proposed configuration of biogas-grid connected lithium-ion storage network recorded the highest level of technical efficiency in terms of energy purchase of 239,764 kWh and energy sales to the grid of 1,959,426 kWh. The lowest net energy purchase was 1,719,661 kWh while the configuration of biogas-grid connected zinc bromide storage network attained the most economical energy system in terms of overall cost of $ 8,647,863.00 and the operating cost of $ 143,974.00. The investment return rate was 17.00 Percent and the internal return rate was 20.30 Percent. The payback period was 4.83 years.
